Iloilo City is celebrating the 83rd Charter Day today, August 25, 2020, and its first-ever Congresswoman Julienne ‘Jam Jam’ Baronda offers an inspiring message for all Ilonggos.

FULL STATEMENT:

“The pandemic has challenged the Ilonggos in more ways than one. Despite the hardship that it caused, however, the Ilonggos have refused to be defeated and it has become increasingly clear that we are a persevering people.”

“The Ilonggos have exemplified resilience and this is displayed, not only adapting on the needs of the times, but by also taking positive action and moving forward. We have drawn out strength from each other and we have relished on the abundant mercy of our Creator making our survival possible with each passing day while the pandemic is ongoing.”

“The occasion of our beloved city’s 83rd Charter Day is more meaningful for it calls on all of us Ilonggos to unite against a common invisible enemy – Covid 19. Though our beloved home were visited by many natural calamities and other undesirable circumstances, Covid-19 included, we, Ilonggos have always exhibited strength and unity; as such, we always emerged victorious against crisis situations.”

“Let this occasion serve as a reminder of our glorious past and our hopeful future. Let the founding of our city be a celebration of our humanity as we soldier on and transition to a new and better normal. I am confident that we will overcome pandemic together.”
