Typhoon Ursula affects 2,003 persons in WV

  • A total of 416 families consisting of 2,003 persons were affected by Typhoon Ursula.
  • DSWD 6 activated Blue Alert Status for immediate response to affected persons.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 6 reported that as of 5PM of December 25, a total of 2,003 persons from 416 families in 21 barangays of Western Visayas were affected by Typhoon Ursula.

If broken down, 140 families are affected in Capiz and 276 are affected in Iloilo.

A total of 176 families or 827 persons were transferred in evacuation centers in their respective towns.

Meanwhile, 240 families composed of 971 persons stayed with their relatives and friends to ensure safety during their supposed Christmas eve.

DSWD 6 is on Blue Alert status since Monday
DSWD 6 is on Blue Alert status, making all of their employees on call anytime to help affected families.

DSWD Field Office VI activated the Blue Alert status on Monday which means that all of their employees are on call anytime for field deployment to respond to affected families.

The DSWD FO VI, which stands as vice chair for the Response Cluster under the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, provides augmentation to Local Government Units (LGUs) during crisis and disasters. The LGUs, based on the Local Government Code, are at the frontline of response.

DSWD Assistant Regional Director for Administration Evangeline Felecio assured that the agency is ready to augment to the needs of the LGUs.

“We have available stockpile should the LGUs need our augmentation. We ensure that we have sufficient family food packs for any eventuality,” said Felecio.
