The Iloilo City Government has inaugurated the ₱72-million Arevalo District Super Health Center in Barangay San Jose, Arevalo, marking another milestone in its efforts to bring accessible and quality healthcare services closer to Ilonggo residents.

Mayor Raisa Treñas led the inauguration of the two-storey healthcare facility on October 2, 2026, emphasizing the city government’s commitment to ensuring that residents have a reliable place to seek medical assistance, especially during times of illness.

The new Super Health Center is designed to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to residents of Arevalo and nearby districts, reducing the need to travel to major hospitals for basic medical consultations and diagnostic procedures.
The facility has an approximate floor area of 954 square meters and is equipped to accommodate laboratory services, X-ray examinations, a pharmacy, dental services, and maternal and child healthcare.

It also features dedicated ambulance parking and a driveway for patient transport, as well as a rainwater harvesting system and sewage treatment plant.

“Ang aton nga syudad tinguhaan gid nga kon pwede lang mapalibre ang mga services, mabuligan naton ang tanan nga gamasakit. Amo na ang aton goal sang aton Super Health Center, may makadtuan ang aton mga pumuluyo nga mabal-an nila nga may naga-atipan sa ila,” Treñas said.

The mayor stressed that the city’s goal is to make essential healthcare services free whenever possible, particularly for residents who face financial difficulties in accessing medical treatment.

DOH Praises New Health Facility

Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-6) Director Dr. Mar Wynn D. Bello, who attended the inauguration, praised the facility, describing it as one of the best health centers he has seen across four regions he has visited.

The project has a total cost of ₱72 million, with approximately ₱14.5 million in partial funding assistance from the Department of Health’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP).

According to Treñas, the DOH funding includes ₱10 million for infrastructure, ₱2 million for medical equipment, and another ₱2 million for an ambulance.

The investment reflects the collaboration between the local and national governments in strengthening community-based healthcare infrastructure and improving access to essential medical services.

More Super Health Centers Planned

Beyond the Arevalo facility, the Iloilo City Government is pursuing further improvements to its public healthcare system.
Treñas disclosed that the city is pushing for the renovation of the La Paz Maternity Clinic, with plans to convert it into another Super Health Center.

A clinical laboratory is also expected to open in 2027, further expanding the availability of diagnostic services for residents.

The city government is likewise exploring the establishment of dialysis centers near these healthcare facilities to provide more accessible treatment options for patients with kidney-related conditions.

The inauguration of the Arevalo District Super Health Center forms part of Iloilo City’s continuing efforts to strengthen its public health infrastructure and bring essential medical services closer to communities.

Through these investments, the city government aims to ease the financial and logistical burden of seeking medical care while ensuring that more Ilonggos have access to timely and quality healthcare. (Source: Iloilo City Public Information Office)
