Iloilo City has once again earned the Gold Award for excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), marking its fourth consecutive recognition and reaffirming its commitment to resilience and disaster preparedness.

The award was conferred by the Office of Civil Defense Region VI (OCD VI) and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council VI (RDRRMC VI) during the Region VI DRRM Assessment and Recognition Ceremony held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel on April 28, 2026.

Leading the awarding ceremony were Civil Defense Administrator and NDRRMC Executive Director Usec. Harold N. Cabreros and OCD VI Regional Director and RDRRMC VI Chairperson Raul E. Fernandez. Iloilo Governor Arthur R. Defensor Jr. also attended the event as host province chief executive.

The recognition highlights Iloilo City’s sustained efforts in strengthening its disaster preparedness and response initiatives through coordinated and proactive programs.

Among the initiatives cited were the conduct of regular citywide and barangay-level disaster drills, continuous capability training for district and barangay DRRM councils, establishment of early warning and alert systems, implementation of pre-emptive evacuation protocols, and the strengthening of the City Emergency Operations Center for faster coordination and emergency response.

The award was received by Iloilo City DRRM Officer Donna Magno on behalf of the city government.

City officials said the recognition reflects Iloilo City’s continuing commitment to building a safer and more resilient community amid increasing climate and disaster-related challenges.
