Iloilo City shines again with another GSIS Gold Seal of Protection Award
City Now One Award Away from Prestigious Hall of Fame
The Iloilo City Government has been recognized once again by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), proudly receiving its latest Seal of Protection Award. The prestigious award, announced during the 2025 GSIS Seal of Protection Awards ceremony held in Iloilo City, celebrates the local government’s exceptional commitment to safeguarding public assets and strengthening disaster resilience.
The Seal of Protection Awards program is a key initiative by the GSIS to promote accountability and preparedness among government agencies and local government units (LGUs) nationwide, ensuring properties are adequately insured in compliance with Republic Act No. 656, or the Property Insurance Law. Iloilo City’s consistent receipt of this award underscores its proactive approach to risk management and the continuity of public services.
Mayor Raisa Treñas expressed her delight at the city’s growing recognition.
“I’m happy because our city is now recognized as one of the top performing cities in the Philippines and the world,” Mayor Treñas said. “Proof of this is the Gold Seal of Protection we received from GSIS, which demonstrates that our city is heading in the right direction.”
She emphasized the critical nature of insuring government facilities: “This is a big thing—because government properties are not just ‘things,’ but part of the service that benefits the public.”
“In times of calamities where our facilities are damaged and our work is hampered—our services must continue regardless—this is our commitment to the Ilonggos,” she added.
In a related highlight of the event, Engr. Neil Ravena was personally honored with a Plaque of Appreciation for his outstanding dedication and significant contributions to asset protection and responsible governance within the city government.
This latest achievement brings Iloilo City closer to a significant milestone: the city is now just one award away from entering the esteemed GSIS Seal of Protection Hall of Fame. This anticipated achievement would solidify Iloilo City’s status as a leader in property insurance compliance and disaster preparedness in the Philippines.
The GSIS Seal of Protection Awards program annually recognizes government entities that meet stringent criteria for property insurance coverage and risk mitigation. The Gold Seal, the highest tier of the award, requires that at least 90% of an agency’s total insurable properties be covered by a GSIS policy, among other requirements.
