Iloilo City Gov’t closely coordinates with DMW to ensure safety of Ilonggo OFWs
The Iloilo City Government is closely coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to ensure the safety and welfare of Ilonggo Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) amid ongoing attacks affecting parts of the Middle East.
Mayor Raisa Treñas assured Ilonggos that the City Government is actively monitoring the situation and remains on standby to assist migrant workers and their families as developments unfold.
According to the DMW, there is currently no order for mandatory repatriation. Nevertheless, the Iloilo City Government has activated its support mechanisms and strengthened coordination with national authorities to ensure it can respond immediately should the need arise.
“The Iloilo City Government stands united in safeguarding the welfare of our migrant workers. We are ready to assist, ready to respond, and committed to working hand in hand with the Department of Migrant Workers to protect our Ilonggo OFWs,” Mayor Treñas emphasized.
On the ground, the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) is working closely with Barangay Employment Service Officers (BESOs) in all barangays to intensify information dissemination and provide guidance to families of OFWs.
Through this coordinated network, concerns may be efficiently relayed to employers and the appropriate government agencies for prompt action.
Mayor Treñas urged families of OFWs to immediately reach out to their respective BESOs or the PESO for inquiries or assistance to ensure faster processing and timely support.
“Ginapangabay ko ang aton mga pamilya nga magpalapit lang sa inyo tagsa ka Barangay Employment Service Officers ukon sa Public Employment Service Office para mas mapadasig ang proseso kag masiguro nga mabaton nila ang nagakaigo nga suporta. Ang aton syudad naga-isa sa pagbulig sa aton mga migrant workers,” the Mayor said. (Iloilo City PIO)
