Iloilo City, Smart Farming Asia Foundation Seal Partnership to Boost Urban Agriculture and Food Security
The Iloilo City Government has strengthened its push for sustainable agriculture and food security after formally signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Smart Farming Asia Foundation, Inc. on December 19, 2025.
The agreement was signed by Mayor Raisa S. Treñas and Smart Farming Asia Foundation President John Nestor G. Villagomeza, with the ceremony witnessed by Jona Villagomeza, Yvonne Mczorn, and City Agriculturist Iñigo Garingalao.
The partnership aims to advance urban agriculture initiatives in the city, particularly through support for the JPT Ediscape Urban Gardening Project and the Iloilo City Farmers Federation. It aligns with Iloilo City’s broader goals on environmental sustainability, food resilience, and affordable food supply for residents.
Under the MOA, Smart Farming Asia Foundation will provide free NutriBoost Nano Plus Smart Fertilizer to identified beneficiaries. The foundation will also conduct technical training, seminars, and demonstration activities to help farmers improve crop yield and adopt sustainable farming practices. In turn, the City Government will facilitate the identification of beneficiaries, provide support for project sites, and ensure the integration of the program into existing city-led food security initiatives.
Mayor Treñas said the collaboration will directly benefit local farmers while helping make food more affordable and sustainable for Ilonggos. She emphasized that the partnership brings together training, technology, and direct support to farmers to improve productivity and strengthen the city’s food security.
“Through this partnership, we can better support our farmers and build a stronger food security system for the city. This will help improve harvests and make food more affordable for our people,” the mayor said, as she expressed gratitude to Foundation President Villagomeza for supporting the city’s advocacy.
The Iloilo City Government believes that collaboration between the public and private sectors is key to ensuring a resilient food system, noting that collective efforts today will help secure a brighter future for Ilonggo families.
