Iloilo City Gov’t steps up preparedness as Typhoon ‘Tino’ nears
The Iloilo City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Raisa S. Treñas, has activated comprehensive disaster preparedness measures as Tropical Cyclone “Tino” (Kalmaegi) continues to intensify and threaten the region with heavy rains and strong winds.
Mayor Treñas is personally overseeing the city’s emergency operations from the Iloilo City Operations Center, ensuring real-time coordination with all clusters of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
Following PAGASA’s Bulletin No. 8 placing Iloilo City under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3, the city has been placed under Red Alert Status, mobilizing all response clusters, district, and barangay DRRMCs to monitor their areas and respond promptly to any emergency situation.
“All barangays are advised to activate their Emergency Operations Centers, prepare evacuation sites, and implement preemptive measures, especially for residents in coastal and riverside communities,” Mayor Treñas said.
She further reminded everyone to “stay calm but alert, follow official advisories, and avoid spreading unverified information.”
Mandatory Pre-emptive Evacuation in High-Risk Areas
To ensure public safety, Mayor Treñas issued Executive Order No. 121, mandating the pre-emptive evacuation of residents in high-risk and coastal areas.
Affected barangays include:
Molo District: Boulevard, San Juan, Calumpang, South Baluarte, and nearby coastal areas
Arevalo District: Sto. Niño Sur, Sto. Niño Norte, and Calaparan
City Proper: Ortiz, General Hughes, Rizal Ibarra, Maria Clara, Concepcion, Tanza Baybay, Rizal Palapala I & II, Rima Rizal, Rizal Estanzuela, Sto. Rosario Duran, Veterans Village, and Tanza Bonifacio
Jaro District: Bito-on
La Paz District: Hinactacan and Ingore
Lapuz District: Bo. Obrero, Lapuz Norte, Loboc, and Mansaya
The Logistics Cluster of the CDRRMC has already begun evacuating residents from these areas and repacking and pre-positioning food and non-food items at the city’s regional evacuation center in Sooc, Arevalo.
450 Evacuation Centers Ready
The Iloilo City Government has prepared 450 evacuation centers that can accommodate up to 47,342 families or approximately 226,741 individuals.
These centers are ready to receive evacuees, and residents are urged to cooperate with authorities and follow safety advisories.
Work and Class Suspensions for Public Safety
To minimize risks, Mayor Treñas issued two additional executive orders:
Executive Order No. 122 – suspending classes at all levels in Iloilo City on November 4 and 5, 2025, until further notice.
Executive Order No. 123 – suspending work in all government offices within the city starting November 4, 2025, while basic, vital, and health-related services will continue to operate.
The mayor also encouraged private offices and establishments to suspend work for employee safety.
Proactive Leadership and Coordination
As part of the city’s proactive response, Mayor Treñas presided over a CDRRMC cluster meeting to ensure coordination and readiness of all agencies and barangays.
She emphasized that all cluster heads and barangay officials must remain alert and ready to respond, citing that preparedness saves lives and minimizes disaster impact.
“Our goal is always the safety and protection of every Ilonggo. We are on top of the situation and will continue to monitor and act decisively as Typhoon Tino approaches,” Mayor Treñas assured.
