₱5,000 Fuel Subsidy for Iloilo City Tricycle Drivers Set After Holy Week
Nearly 2,000 tricycle drivers and operators in Iloilo City are set to receive a ₱5,000 fuel subsidy each, as distribution resumes on April 8, following the Holy Week break.
The financial assistance, funded by the national government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), aims to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices and increasing costs of basic commodities on the transport sector. The Iloilo City Government will assist in facilitating documentation and ensuring the smooth rollout of the subsidy distribution.
A total of 1,983 qualified beneficiaries are expected to receive the cash aid. These include tricycle drivers and operators with valid franchises issued by the Sangguniang Panlungsod and holders of a Motorized Tricycle Operator’s Permit (MTOP) from the city’s Business Permits and Licensing Division.
To claim the subsidy, beneficiaries are required to personally appear and present the original copy of their professional driver’s license, along with two photocopies of a valid ID bearing three original specimen signatures. Authorities emphasized that representatives will not be allowed to claim the subsidy on behalf of the beneficiaries, in accordance with DSWD guidelines.
City officials also appealed for cooperation among recipients to ensure an orderly and efficient distribution process.
The upcoming payout follows an earlier initiative by the Iloilo City Government, which provided ₱500 worth of fuel assistance to members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) last week.
Meanwhile, a similar subsidy rollout for public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers is scheduled on April 9, extending further support to the city’s transport sector.
